Two weeks around the Pearl


Sri Lanka is packed with many interesting natural beauty and cultural experiences. In this two weeks around the peal takes you many places where your holiday become unforgettable. Heritage Buddhist landmarks, welcoming and friendly locals, stunning tea plantations, diverse riding terrain, incredible bird, wildlife and many other opportunities for cultural and active exploration is included.

Day 01


Arrive at Bandaranayake International Air port, Greet and welcome by our cycling team. Thereafter transfer to the hotel in Negombo. If your arrival flight is in the morning, you can visit Negombo town by vehicle in the early evenings) Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Negombo.

Day 02


Ride from Waikkala to Walahapitiya (Approx 40KM)

After Breakfast transfer by vehicle to start the amazing bike ride in Sri Lanka.
Waikkala, the beautiful sandy and coastal village in the western province of Sri Lankan is our starting point. Through which we ride along the flat terrain and relaxing coastal roads. Passing fishermen trying to sell their catch of the day all along the road, sort their nets after a catch and locals buying fresh fish for their delicious curry lunch. If we come across some fishermen pulling their nets we too would stop to help them a bit and make our unique pictures. This coast was highly influenced by colonial rulers due to the spice trade. Portuguese influence on this area still can be seen on every corner of junctions with little statues of Roman Catholic saints. Passing many coconut palm lands, continue our ride to Walahapitiya, a small village in the North Western province of the Island, there we reach the final destination of our morning ride.
Thereafter transfer to Sigiriya by vehicle (apporx: 03Hrs and 30 Minutes)
In the early evening, climb fascinating and trendy pidurangala rock to see the sunset and view the Sigiriya Rock.

Day 03


Ride from Sigiriya to Dambulla (Approx. 40-50 km)

We start the ride next to the magnificent Sigiriya rock fortress. Following an irrigation canal we ride passing agricultural lands of sweet potato, beans and rice paddies. All the while observing the natural rhythm of local life, first we stop at the bund of the Kandalama Laka where a short break will be taken in view of the stunning lake while our team serves some local snacks and beverages. All the while your guide confers to you a comprehending understanding about the local culture and atmosphere all throughout the ride. Moving along a nice gravel path while following a small stream, you finish the first half of the ride by indulging yourself in the splendor of the world heritage site as deemed by UNESCO, the Dambulla rock temple.

Afterwards you’d loop back to your starting point again following a serine and lush pathways full of local farming culture and its experience.
In the early evenings transfer to a local house by vehicle to take part of authentic cookery experience. Learn about the Sri Lankan spices and vegetables and how you prepare a delicious curry with them. Thereafter enjoy your home cooked Sri Lankan rice and curry dinner.

Overnight stay at Sigiriya.

Day 04


Ride from Minneriya to Polonnaruwa (Approx 50KM)

After Breakfast transfer to Giritale by vehicle. Start the bike ride next to the ancient Minneriya dam and continue it along an irrigational canal where bird wildlife is plenty. Today we are in the heart of the rice cultivation and the granary of the island. In this ride we will get an exposure on many day today activities of the local farming community. Stop at a village house to be refreshed with an exotic coconut juice offers by the village family, before we reach to the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Visit Polonnaruwa Archeological monuments by bikes. Ride along the 12th century Dam to move around this UNESCO heritage site.
On completion returned to Habarana by vehicle.

(This day late afternoon you can do an optional jeep safari to see the one of the best elephant gathering in Asia. Please contact your cycle guide for the timing and the cost)

Day 05


Sigiriya to Kandy (Ride Approx. 35km)

After Breakfast transfer by vehicle to Kalundeewa. Start the ride from a little hill and enjoy your first very small downhill in Sri Lanka. This is an elephant corridor area where occasionally elephants cross the road and move in to a national park. Riding along “Elahera” canal with the shade of hundreds of giant Arjunla trees will give you some unforgettable holiday memories. Take a short break on the stunning ‘Moragahakanda” hydropower dam while overlooking the knuckles mountain range. After the dam, the undulating paved path would leads us to our final destination – Naula, a small but quite picturesque town located in the district of mathale. Afterwards we drive to Kandy where we staying for the night. While on the way we also stop at the Matale Spice Gardens where the best spices of Sri Lanka are found.

Day 06


Kandy none cycling day

Rising around the scenic lake to enjoy the none cycling day. UNESCO – listed Kandy as one of the world heritage sites. Today its home to multiple sacred landmarks, landscaped gardens and cultural museums. This is the pinnacle of cultural heritage and the hill-capital of Sri Lanka. We will visit the sacred temple of the tooth during the offering time, with our long pants and covered shoulders to pay the respect to the most sacred Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. Then we visit a gem lapidary to indulge in the craftsmanship of Sri Lankan jewelers. The rest of the day is spent on enjoying the wonderful hotel amenities.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya (Ride Approx 40KM)

After Breakfast Transfer to Peradeniya by vehicle. Start the ride from the beautiful Peradeniya University premises. Today is the challenging hilly day. But our support vehicle will be behind to you as an option all throughout the ride. On our way to the land where they produce the best quality tea in the world, we will be cycling on an uphill and undulating path. If you spot tea picking ladies working in the tea gardens, don’t forget to stop for a picture. Reach at stunning kothmale hydropower Dam to complete the ride for the day and take rest while enjoying the cut fruits served by the cycle team. Transfer to Nuwaraeliya by vehicle while stopping at a tea factory to learn about the manufacturing process of tea and enjoy a nice cup of Ceylon black tea.

Day 08


After breakfast Ride to Horton Plains (Approximately 40KM)

Start the ride from Nuwara Eliya and ride to Pattipola railway station. This is the highest railway station in Sri lanka and its over 1800m from the mean sea level. Here you can see many little vegetable gardens and often people are working on them. This is the heart of the winter vegetable growing in Sri Lanka. Start the second part of the ride which is hilly. Here you will be climbing in to the Horton Plains national park on several hairpin bends. No worries, support vehicle will be always behind to you to give a ride as an option. Enter to Horton Plains national and enjoy the unspoiled nature. Many sambar deer can be seen in the massive grasslands of the National Park. Finishing the ride of the day, you will transfer to the hotel in Ella.

Day 09


After Breakfast Explore Ella and Ride to Tissa

Climb the Little Adam’s peak to see the panoramic view. Soon after you finish the walk, will start the bike ride to enjoy the downhill. Visit the Rawana Waterfall and continue the downhill up to Wellawaya Buduruwagala temple. While you visit the historical temple, cycle team will arrange your picnic lunch under a nice shady tree in the temple. After lunch you will be driven in the vehicle to avoid the main road and will start the second half of the ride from Lunugamwehera. Ride along the Lunugamvehera dam and continue your ride along a nice canal which leads to our final destination “Tissa”.

Day 10


Katharagama Loop ride (Approximately 40KM)

After breakfast ride around Tissa tank and Debarawewa tank while stopping for the incredible birdlife. Riding trough the rural agricultural villages in the south of the island we reach Katharagama Pilgrimage area. Multiple numbers of fruit and local sweets stalls will slowdown our speed. Today we will be back to our hotel for lunch and get ready to do a jeep safari in yala national park, looking for leopards and other wildlife.
Enjoy the game drive at Yala national park in the late afternoon.

Day 11


Ride from Tissa to Hambanthota (Approximately 40KM) Having an early breakfast to escape the heat we will start the ride from the hotel as early as possible. Passing many rice paddies we arrive at the Bundala national park which is a paradise for the migrate birds including Flamingos. During the migrate season you can spot many species of birds scattered and feeding in the wetlands of Bundala national park such as, Painted Stocks, Glossy Ibis, Comb Ducks, pelicans and many species of waders. Also we need to be attentive about the roaming elephants here, if we are lucky we have the chance to spot elephants too. Your tour guide will brief you about this before the cycling group enters to the national park. Today our final riding destination will be Hambanthota. End of the ride, transfer to Galle by vehicle. Day 12


Ride around Koggala Lake (Approxi:30KM)

After breakfast transfer to Ahangama.
Last day to explore Sri Lanka by bike.
As southern part of Sri Lanka is famous as the area where the best cinnamon is coming from, this is the day that we learn about cinnamon cultivation and get an experience of cinnamon peeling. Today we will be passing few rubber plantations and lower land home tea gardens too. Koggala Lake round is full of multiple numbers of mangroves and many indigenous plant species. Learn about the importance of mangroves from your cycling guide and how the wood is being use for the local Masks carving. Half away trough the ride, a boat will be waiting to take you to an island were a family groves cinnamon. In the island you can see the process of cinnamon peeling and have a nice healthy cup of cinnamon tea. End of the ride, transfer to Galle to visit the ancient Dutch fort which is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO.

Stay Leisure by the Beach

Stay Leisure by the beach enjoying the hotel amenities or can go for a optional Whale watching trip. (Whale watching trip is subject to availability and please contact the cycle guide for update during the tour)
